Botanical Description

Adenium obesum, commonly known as Desert Rose, is a succulent shrub valued for its swollen trunk and showy flowers. It typically grows 3-6 feet (1-2 m) tall, though it is often kept smaller in pots.

  • Water-storing trunk

  • Slow to moderate growth 
  • The enlarged base stores water, allowing survival in dry conditions. 
  • Stem & Caudex Smooth, gray to brown

  • Contains milky latex sap

  • Simple and alternately arranged 
  • Oblong to lance-shaped 
  • Glossy green 
  • Smooth margins 
  • Leaves may drop during dry or cooler periods.

  • Pink, red, white, or bi-colored 
  • Five rounded petals 
  • Bloom in warm seasons

Habitat

Adenium obesum grows in Human Altered environments (yards and gardens).

Distribution 

It is native to the Arabian Peninsula and tropical Africa.
